The tough hardiness of the Frost Proof Gardenia is a tried and true wonder of a flowering bush. Amongst its many popular uses, the delightfully aromatic blooms of this plant will last even the harshest cold temperatures of the hardiness zones it is able to grow in. It growth pattern makes it a sought after shrub for hedges in areas that experience cold temperatures into Spring. This plant grows rather slowly but can reach 5 feet when mature, making it perfect for property lines.

Frigid Tolerant Blooms
This gardenia variation gets its name for its incredibly adaptation to sustain little to no damage from cold frosts! In zones 7 through 10, you can sleep well knowing that your gardenia will hold up just fine if there is an unexpected cold front through the night. Even into winer, the dormant buds of this shrub can last just fine.

Low maintenance
In addition to being able to withstand cold temperatures, the Frost Proof Gardenia comes with relatively low upkeep. Be sure to water your shrub on a regular weekly basis. However, Frost Proof's do not perform well in soggy soil. So dial in the appropriate watering schedule depending on how quickly your soil drains.

Great for hedges
These flowering shrubs make for excellent hedges. At full maturity these bushes can grow up to 5 feet tall and 4 feet wide, making them perfect size for edging along property lines or to lead along side pathways.

- If these plants endure sudden drops in temperature it is recommended to plant this gardenia in areas where it will receive plenty of full, direct sunlight.
- The Frost Proof gardenia grows best in moist soil that is well drained to prevent it from getting too soggy.
A beautiful, cold hardy flowering shrub.
These cold hardy flowering shrubs a favorite for gardeners for their fragrant flowers and lush green foliage. This gardenia responds well to pruning, so if need be you can maintain this shrub's height at a mere 12 inches. This makes it an ideal indoor plant as well as an outside grower for gardens or hedges. Pruning should be done in the later months of Winter to remove dead branches and promote new growth.
- The Frost Proof Gardenia will grow best in soil that is rather acidic, with a pH between 5.5 and 6.5
- To make your soil more acidic add organic material such as peat moss or compost. In addition you could add small amounts of elemental sulfur. This should be stared several months before planting.
- This gardenia can withstand the frosts of Spring in zones 7-10, meaning it is not well suited for the harsh winters of the northern United States.
